First Friday Forum

Doug McGowan, Director of Innovation Delivery Team-Memphis will be the speaker for March's First Friday Forum. His team is leading the way for groundbreaking public-private partnerships in Memphis that are making progress in reducing gun violence and restoring economic vitality to the city neighborhoods.

?

First Friday Forum will take place Friday, March 7 beginning at noon at First United Methodist Church. Lunch will be provided for $7.00. For more information, contact JDDC at 731-427-7573

Lane Family Gravesite Dedication

?

On Tuesday, February 25th, the City of Jackson held a dedication service that reunited Bishop Isaac Lane, first pastor of Mother Liberty Church and founder of Lane College, with his mother Rachel Lane, aunt Minerva Lane and 5 unidentified infants at Riverside Cemetery.

?

The bodies of his mother, aunt, and the infants had previously been buried on land that was once the Lane Plantation in northeast Madison County.

?

Speakers at the service included Mayor Jerry Gist, Lane College Interim President Glenn Vaulx, two of Bishop Lane's great great grandsons, Madison County Historian Linda Higgins and Mother Liberty Pastor Dr. Daryll Coleman.

The Jackson-Madison County African-American Chamber will hold its 13th Annual JEWEL Awards honoring contemporary and pioneer small Black businesses. This year's banquet will also feature music from Gospel music sensation Vickie Winans. Proceeds from this event go to the Follow Me Into Business youth development program.
